How did finding out I am dyslexic at 38 years old change me? In one word - acceptance. How to enrol my child?
Enrolment is simple. You can complete the online form via their Teachworks portal or drop in at one of their ACT offices to fill it out in person. Enrolment must be finalized before tutoring can begin.
What’s the learning environment like?
The centre aims to create a warm, relaxed, and fun atmosphere. They believe that laughter, positivity, and trust are essential for effective learning. The “Wall of Fame” and student showcases like “Kids’ Work” are ways they celebrate success and motivate learners.
How are tutoring sessions structured?
Tutoring sessions are offered as both one-to-one and small-group formats (maximum of three students per group). The centre uses cooperative and multisensory learning methods to enhance understanding. Individual programs are tailored to each learner and delivered by specialist teachers, with weekly homework to reinforce learning.
What methodology guides instruction?
Canberra Learning and Development employs direct, explicit teaching combined with multisensory techniques in reading, spelling, writing, and mathematics. They integrate technology—like Symphony Mathematics, Lexia Learning, Word, and Numbershark—to make lessons engaging. For older students or those with specific learning challenges, the centre uses metacognitive strategies, graphic organisers, and discovery learning to develop independent thinking.
